        It's not so much that squeezing the extra 1/10th, it's safety as well. Old tires will not have the same grip as fresh tires (which is also why you should be careful how you store your track day tires.) Remember, the tires are your ONLY connection to the road, and any decrease in traction ability (i.e. old, hard tires) will make the tire less predictable, and a less usable contact patch. Even on the street, you don't want to be in a emergency brake situation to realize that "oh shit, these tires don't have enough traction any more.."

        Sometimes it's wise to listen to those who race, after all, we have to maintain our cars to a higher safety standard then the DMV requires, and our lives depend on the maintenance level of our tools.

          It's not like they've magically turned to granite. Yeah, they're old and have lost alot of their softness. But there's no way they're dangerously hard.

          I'd bet they've got better grip than most street tires. The only thing I'd be concerned about might be using them on the street in the wet- THAT could be hairy.


          OH, and just because I don't have a race car as my avatar doesn't mean I don't race. ;)

            Way to tall for my current track cars(plus I have like 10 sets allready),all those that say they aren't worth it I think they will provide tons of track day fun and will recover some of their past glory with the surface scrubbed off.Of course they won't ever be as good a fresh set but for sure better than most street tires once you get some heat in them,thankfully RA1's don't heat cycle like a hooiser.;)

              This is kinda where I'm at on them. They have to have SOME value to someone. I put them on CL at 4 for the price of 1 new one with a willingness to trade for some decent street tires and will see what bites I get.

              I did think of throwing them on my coupe hjust to see how they feel since it has the suspension to autox but a) it still has a twisted fender that already rubs the 195's on turns b) its too cold for me to trust them in town and c) the size and weight would probably cause my M10 to throw a rod :roll:
