Agreed! The title is pretty misleading, whoops. I feel that the BRZ has more performance potential than the E30 chassis, but thankfully our parts are cheaper =)

Cheesy has twice the displacement of a BR-Z and about 500lbs less ;) plus race brakes, tires etc... vs. a stock E30 that's down 40+hp from the BR-Z and has antiquated rear suspension and worse gearing...

i see the point where you can“t compare like that... it had to be the same driver with the same "purpose" ...

but what about brz x m3 e30 ? performance and "feeling" wise...

Nice! I love seeing an e30 chase down any new sports car on the track, especially with an m20 and equivalent tires wow! Weither you guys say it was the driver or the car, it's impressive either way.. and it's a combination of both.

Question for all you track guys from California (bay area/socal) - would a 4.10 LSD be better suited to thill and buttonwillow for a stock M20? I'm running a 3.73 LSD now and only stay in 3rd/4th gear, 2nd for turn 11. Might be going to thill on April 28 with NCRC to battle it out with my BRZ buddy again yeeeee =]

I would probably use a 4.10 for buttonwillow CW, but so far that's the only track I've driven in an E30. Overall it's likely to be a better diff for track use.

28th... So close. A few friends and I are going to t-hill on the 27th.

I'm assuming you're running with NCRC, too bad it's cyclone config. I'd love to get on track with more E30s!

What's wrong with cyclone? Don't wanna trail brake? ;) it evens the playing field out for cars with less power, should be in your favor.

None of us are running E30s actually, I am running my e46 330i and we will have some M3s. Also kronus will hopefully be running his e30. So... One of us will be running E30s.

I would not run anything shorter than a 3.73 on BW because of riverside and the dragstrip (we top out 5th 2/3rds through dragstrip with a 3.73, it would be shameful with a 4.10), but t-hill is doable with a 4.10.

With a 3.73 at TH I dip into 2nd in 5, 11 and 14 if I'm going hard. At BW, 2/3, 4/5 and 19 are 2nd in the same situation. Since we do endurance racing, most of the time I hang back a bit and save gas/engine/clutch/transmission/diff/tires by not dropping into 2nd.

You are not running a stock m20 nor are you running stockish weight, nor the same rev limit...

the rev limit is the same, the m30 260 has the same gear ratios as the m20 one. Also, our sister team runs an M20 with a 4.10, and they're pretty even with us in everything but acceleration ;)

Point being, you can't compare a race built E30 with a stock one. Cheesy is likely up 50whp and down 400lbs from this car... you will have much higher straightaway speeds. You may forget, sir, how anemic an M20 really is. ;)

                              this may be true.

in any case, hitting the top of 5th in a car loosely held together by zip ties and good intentions is quite a bit of fun.

And hitting the top of 5th in an M20 is impossible :p
