Running the 1.8i head on the non domed pistons (not the 9.3 to 1) and I guess it got unhappy when I blew a shift and hit 8 thousand RPM, the very next week (which is about 10-15 miles of hard driving in the 5to7 thousand RPM range) it blew up on a restart. opened that cylinder wall right to the water jacket.
Craigslist be like "runs and drive, just a small misfire"

That's my mate (and yes - full hipster insults needed!) - I was a big sight more grubby...the pin came out the back of the gearbox coupling to the selector shaft on the track, stuck in 3rd. Managed to get the machine shop at the track (lucky!) to make a new one and keep driving. VERY fortunate...
Need some 16" Sport Evo wheels and race rubber next!
I had exactly this happen to me once in my 87 325i while on the freeway about 15 miles north of San Francisco. It was really intense. Luckily didn't get impaled, though close. Taught me not to buy a $1,500 E30 again.
Ronal turbos? I'd be all over a set if they made them 15/16x8. Hows the grip with the tires you have on them for you?
Yeah, Phase 2s from what I can tell. I've got Falken RT-615k's on them. They do fine, but I don't have a ton to compare with from personal experience. For the last year or so I've been using RE11a's on a set of 15x8 TRM C1 wheels. Same tire size on both, 205/50R15. I like the 15x8 setup much more. I keep the Ronals/Falkens on for daily driving.
