Let's talk about track day brakes

Iirc ATE's have brass bushings which seems to be what most track guys prefer. I think they're a little more rare though.Leave a comment:

Is there a better OEM brake caliper? Girling or ATE? I want to rebuild a set of calipers and want to build the right onesLeave a comment:

I run the 300mm Massive Brakes 'Sport kit in the front of my track car. I went to an E30 M3 master cylinder and was much happier with the pedal feel afterwards.Leave a comment:

When you're doing 140+ and the brakes basically quit, you'll be pumping and standing on them too!Leave a comment:

I woulda thunk so. But once you unbolted the caliper, I could see itIsn't it physically impossible for the piston to pop out unless the rotor shatters?
getting pulled out by a pad that's been mauled like that.
You'd have to really stand on the pedal to get it to do that much damage...

How is pedal feel? I still love the feel of stock calipers (no matter the size). Every BBK weve ever installed in a customer car ive hated. Also i worry that the wilwoods will do the same stuff the UUC calipers have been plauged with no?They are pretty expensive once you get into the race kits. But the replacement parts (rotors/seals/etc) are really cheap. I love the life span of the pads, but the wilwood calipers flex quite a bit and cause the pads to wear uneven. And yeah sorry, I mean massive brakes.
If you are planning on redoing your suspension at some point and dont have a lot of wheels / tires accumulated yet, I think that e36/e46 stuff makes more sense. But in my case, I had too much invested in my 4 lug setup to make a switch.
Either way, not upgrading to a proper BBK is false economy. You end up spending more in the long run. I made my investment back within 3 years when I look at how much I used to spend on consumables vs what I spend now.
or you bend a pad in half :(Leave a comment:

Massive = Lee. He makes a lot of adaptors and such to use off- the- shelf parts.

Massive != UUC right?
Whats the cost like? I would love to stay 4 lug, just getting pretty tired of not being able to stop.Leave a comment:

Dave, I dont know what your overall plans are, but I have run massive brakes for 3+ years on my 4 lug setup without any complaints. I used to burn through pads and rotors like you, and now I can go 15+ weekends on a set of pads and rotors, and thats turning 1:40s at RA in a swapped e30 like yours. Very cost effective.Leave a comment:
