What's up r3v! Me and a couple friends are interested in doing a LeMons race or 2 this year, we have car lined up and enough people but I'm just wondering if anyone else in here has participated and has any knowledge they'd be willing to kick down! Thanks r3v!

I did Lemons back in 08-09 with my auto tech teacher and a few friends. We ran a 1997 Taurus SHO- this model had the V8 and it sounded amazing. I was very surprised by how much I liked the car, that engine was something else. It was chipped with no rev limiter, once I looked down at the tach and was at 8400rpm and it didn't miss a beat!
The Volvo behind us in this picture ended up crashing head on into a wall killing the driver. They almost cancelled the rest of the race after that. This was at Altamont in 2008, we had a school bus theme going:
We then ran the same car the next year at Thunderhill, this time with a skunk theme. We even ran bee repellent (seriously smells awful) through windshield washer tubes to the back of the car aimed about 10 feet behind us, when we hit the sprayers it would shoot the person following us with the repellent:
The only thing I can remember is to make sure to check the expiration date on your harnesses. We got a used set on eBay and they ended up being expired (which none of us caught). We ended up borrowing a set from another competitor.

Don't let the $500 thing steer you wrong, it's still an expensive affair. Definitely less than running a full season of SpecE30 but still not cheap. The cool thing is that you don't need a full comp license to compete, just keep in mind that leads to less than experienced drivers on track.

And I'm aware that it is still auto racing and isn't "cheap" no matter how you break it down but it definitely is a bucket list for usC6Z

I was building an '80 rabbit to race in ICSCC Club Rabbit class and I was also going to use it in LeMons, but the project fizzled when the place I was building it got foreclosed and I had 30 days to get out and two incomplete projects :(
How it sat after my friend built it
It got close, but not close enough
A control arm mount that got hammered (probably in an off roading excursion) took forever to fix and is probably what prevented me from finishing it in time
My favorite pic from when I had it
I still have the motor and a few other things. I hope to build a FSV to race in a vintage class against FF and FC carsSimon
Current Cars:
-1966 Lotus Elan
-1986 German Car
-2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

Yay Lemons. I've been racing with Auto Lemon Union with the mario kart themed e28 535i but the car was sold to another team and now we run a 1990 miata with a 1.8 swap. Team name changed to Risky Whiskey Racing. We'll be running a second miata soon, one white and the other black.

For reference, lemons racing is anything but cheap. We budget about $2000 per race weekend, not including modifications we make to the car. That's about the same amount of money I spent on a 3 week trip in Thailand including the round trip ticket.Last edited by pandaboo911; 04-20-2016, 12:41 AM.
