Oh ok, in that case I have 6 new Febis on the exhaust side. I should have put new on the intake, but the exhaust got the worst of the timing belt snap when I first got my car (3 years ago!! holy shit does time fly).

I emailed Bavauto and they also said that the Febi's are what BMW is using now. I just know that they look different than my old stockers, just trying to figure if that's good or not!

Nando, thanks for the input-good to hear that they're holding up for you.

I have the febi rockers in my head, they seem okay but I only have about 13,000 on them. I've definitely hit the rev limiter a few times though.. :)

I had heard more than one place that the new OE amrs were indeed the Febi ones - here is one of the places that I saw that mentioned . . .

No personal knowledge on my part as to whether that is true.

First off, sorry about the bad luck Charlie.

Dave, I looked at the arms there and they are the Febi arms. I actually bought some of these from my supplier but I wasn't very happy with the quality. They had the eccentric bolt holes drilled all over the place, there was casting porosity, and the forked end was longer than the stockers-basically all the things that Metric Mechanic says to watch out for in their catalog.

So my question is, are looks deceiving? Are the Febi arms better than they appear? I can't see the pics that Alex posted very well right now (POS work computer) but they don't appear to be like the Febi's I had.

I was looking at Rockauto's site and they list the Febis and some Beck-Arnley's, at $25 bucks a pop. MM lists "inspected" arms for $25, I want to talk to him and see what brand they are. I'd rather not shell out the extra $120, but I don't want to have to change the little bastards anytime soon either. Yes, I need a complete set.

    Thanks for any info guys.

Sure did actually, we bs'ed for a while after I broke the motor in my vain attempt to pester all the spec e30 & GTS boys to see if anyone had a stock rocker arm.

In hindsight, pulling a cylinder head & sliding the arms & rocker shafts out in the middle of a grassy field with basic tools would have been a tremendous PITA - so probably best I took off.

    Charlie,

Replace the rocker arms and shafts, about $250-350 in parts (rocker arms, shafts, gaskets, new headbolts, timing belt etc.)

Hmm, are those "updated" rocker arms supposed to be the standard replacement now?? I mean, how can you be sure you get the updated ones and not some old stock they've got sitting on the shelf?

I'll be up at MidOhio next weekend for the vintage race. Anyone else going?

DR. Shchipkov, I was referring to the standard issue rocker arms which will snap at one point in time during it's life in any m20 and m30 motor some of us own and drive "certain ways"
Have Charlie do a cam treatment while he's at it!!

    PS: I have a toothache!!! :p
