    historical significance....on track

so many icons have had big track provenance......e30 M3, 2002, 911, etc etc..

not many here know of the e30 w/ track pedigree.....

I wanted to share a pic of one....

right before the m3 took over...

Yea IIRC it was in 86 that it was raced. I wish I knew more about it. Colors make me think it has an Alpina connection

Pretty cool. Early euro model must be crazy lightweight!

The name on the door says "O. Manthey"

                That would be Olaf Manthey:

He switched from the E30 to the 190E 2.5-16 and was probably best known for the white and green Evo II's he ran: the #55 Dekra/Becker car (1992 season) and #17 Bellheimer Lord Pils (1993 season).

                He's still racing today...only now it's Porsche GT3: http://www.manthey-racing.de

Cool! I saw that guy recently on a WEC broadcast, first time I'd been able to put a face with the Manthey name. I had no idea about his DTM history. Pretty cool they're coming to Daytona this year along with some other European teams
