Autox the auto, and when the time comes swap the manual in and have fun...You will have a better rear end with the auto car, just hope it is a LSD. Open diffs are no fun...I USED to have one...

Illegal or not, I would definitely stay away from an automatic. If you're even debating between the two, I could list of hundreds of reasons why to not settle for an auto. The main reasons I would say were control of the car, mileage, and the ability to have more fun driving. The few times when it is not enjoyable to drive a manual in traffic can be fixed with a clutch stop. Also, the cost to maintain and possibly fix the transmission will be a problem. If you are buying the auto car simply because it is convenient, I doubt you are going to a drive train swap... I would say, wait until you find the car you want, and you will be much happier.

I don't think he's asking if he should get an auto or manual, I think he's asking if he should autox in his current car (which I assume is an automatic) or wait to swap. overwhelmingly, he should autox it now and build his driving skills until he can do the swap.

                    bann?

personally i would go manual, esp. if you plan to keep the car. if its an auto, and you don't care if you keep the car, then learn on it and get something manual when you feel the need to upgrade.

e30 definetly stick, because the auto is a dog. but in general, i think it differs from car to car, for example : an automatic vette or gto ( low rpm stall ) is a beast at the track because after 2000 rpm ur converter is locked, so its essentially is the same as a stick shift, and also as previously said u have multiple gear shifts from 2nd to 1st. with a manual u concentrate so much on the track that unless theres a hairpin u dont come down to 1st ever.
