    Post your in-car video set-ups!

Help an old guy with limited A/V knowledge. Please show me your in-car camera-recorder-mount-powersource configuration including brand names and model numbers.

I'm thinking of using a lipstick camera, some sort of static media for recording and the cigarette lighter as a power source.

This is for HPDE use, if that matters.

    All feedback is welcome :D

    TIA,
    Mark

I have mine mounted to the passenger seat head rest for now. The camera sits behind and in the middle of the two front seats. The view is the same as in Charlie's sig.

io port mount to a rollbar is the way to go, otherwise I have had good luck with the suction cup mount on my rear window. I find over 130mph it gets a little shaky but is otherwise as smooth as can be. I paid about $75 for mine and it is legal with my local BMW CCA chapter.

I plan on getting the IO Port mount as well.

I had one of those head rest chase cam things before I got rollover protection. Some schools dont like them and won't allow them.

I made my own mount from aluminum, some clamps, rubber and a thumbscrew - worked okay, but transmitted too much vibration. I use a JVC MiniDV camera (sturdy and can be found for cheap these days) and a wide angle lens I got off fleaBay. Whatever you do, I recommend getting the wide angle.

I have the cruisecam headrest mount, a $50 panasonic mini-dv camcorder (16:9) and an ebay .5x lense - works pretty well and cost just over $100. here's my latest video:

I've always wanted to do a remote mount camera somewhere on the front end - perhaps using one of the 3 sets of broken lights I have as a mount :)

I forgot to mention that I don't have a cage or roll hoop, and with a bambino on the way, the back seat stays, mandating the headrest mount thingy.

IIRC, NASA SoCal allows the headrest mount. I will confirm and report back, just in case someone else is thinking of doing this.

Circuit City has a Samsung for $159. Thoughts?

This is pretty much what I am looking for. There are some good deals on eBay for JVC's like Dave mentioned, but then again, it's eBay...

it really is a good learning tool, and the wide angle lense lets you see your hands so you really know when you're doing something wrong. I've only been using mine for about a year and if I compare my driving now to a year ago there is a pretty big difference.

Werd. I'm sure I am gonna catch a lot of mistakes that aren't obvious when on track.

One other thing that may be helpful: I'm gonna put a light on the console (in a location that the camera can pick up) that runs off the brake light so I know when I'm on the brakes. I may be tapping them when I don't need to or something like that.

I never had NASA say anything about the chase cam headrest mount. I ran into problems with BMW CCA only.

I thought it was a good mount, but when I went to fixed back seats, I had no more use for it.
