what do you mean? the lighter car would be less likely to crack or the other way around?

are you guys using solid strut bearings/camber plates? I'm still using OE rubber which I'm sure absorbs some of the shocks.

A lighter car would feel stiffer on the same suspension. I am using GC solid plates, no rubber anywhere.

        GOOD GOD MAN!

I think I can get a DSP E30 down to about 2400lbs even. A long way from 2700-2800

oh, for sure. I don't plan on doing much weight reduction until it's no longer a street car. I haven't had it on a scale but I'm guessing it's around 2800-2850 without me in it. Heavy ass sport seats will be the first thing to go once I stop DD'ing it. :)

How much do sport seats w/leather weigh?

              I think mid 30's.

My 325e 4 door is 2840 fully loaded with spare and all... no trunk tar though.

My 325is is 2600 with some weight reduction.

I think the advantage over an E36 lies in the lower weight....It's the only 'advantage'.

about 45lbs. I shipped a set a couple years ago - with packing they were about ~50 each.

if you're talking e36 v. e30 track cars, you can plow an e30 into a wall and get another shell and have many more cheap cars available

My SM car tipped in at just under 2600#s in Peru. Now I did have rear seats out, you will need to keep those in +25ish. But I did have lead weights for wheels/tires. So the lightweight wheels alone without adapters drop near 100#s. Note this was full fuel plus the turbo junk. 2400#s is possible if you want to be pretty creative with some CF/Fiberglass and possibly with the rules. But 2500 with fuel shouldn't be a problem. DSP doesn't have a minimum weight but then its impossible to really get it all that low given you can't gut the thing.
If you were really true to the whole thing easy things like removing trunk tar and such aren't really cool with the rules but nobody is going to protest it or even think about it.

Yeah stock sport seats weight a ton! Throw in a Kirkey for driver. Pull a Garrick move and a child's racing seat for the passanger's side. Every little bit counts.

In S/P there are TONS of ways to reduce weight you just have to look for them....

The trunk tar wasn't installed in convertibles, or IX models. So it would be perfectly legal to remove.

A childs racing seat would be completely ILLEGAL. This year anyway. Unless of course with brackets it weighs 20lbs.....since we now have a minimum weight for seats in S/P

even still if sport seats are at 45lbs and you meet the 20lb min on race seats you just remove 50lbs from the car....

yeah, that's why seats will probably be my next weight reduction. plus mine are broken...

don't forget the exhaust. my cat section + stainless catback muffler must weigh 70-90lbs together. a single 2.5" pipe with a resonator and magnaflow would probably weigh half that.

Yep, that's what I did... BB/ebay headers into single 2.5", Magnaflow cat and Borla muffler. After selling the stock stuff, total cost was around $250-$300 and weight savings was probably 50 lbs (plus it sounds fucking mean).

My fixed back seat is around 16lbs, it's like a feather compared to stock.

But the roll bar makes up for all those savings :(
