Everyone offline, pointless trains, people avoiding their mirrors like the plague, stupid off courses & spins.
Yea, I love NASA.

That's what I was saying, haha. I've never done a NASA event, and when he responded that it was with NASA (which I thought was a very good club), I thought maybe I was just going crazy...

NASA is a great organization. It's just a touch less "strict" than clubs like the BMWCCA & PCA. My biggest beef is with the "self policing" HPDE groups, there's no real formal signoff for a guy to go from HPDE1 to 2, to 3, etc. This results in a lot of guys doing 2-3 days in 1 & 2, and going straight up to 3. 3 is the "top" level of HPDE without going full open no-point passing, which would be HPDE4, which runs with a lot of the TT groups. (Although in fairness, NASA does seem to be seperating 4 & TT now in a lot of regions, so this might help some) This can make 3 very interesting, as you've got a good number of guys that frankly aren't ready to be out there with guys pushing 9/10ths doing some really dumb moves. The last event I was at with NASA a few weeks ago, we had a guy in a new Black M (maybe 3.0 Z) Coupe who must have thrown away the mirrors. Guy always had a train, refused to give points, got real pissy in the meetings, etc. Anyways, he's pulling a train of 7-8 cars at Mid Ohio through 13-14-15 and onto the front stretch by the pits. The session ends, and they throw the checkers, he proceeds to stomp the brakes. As in, 80 mph to 30, on a front straight, on a hot session. With 8 cars behind him.
Yea.
Came to find out later this was the same guy that thought 20 mph on a warmup "out" lap was a good idea. Had a few words with the guy after that, and low & behold, he wasn't out in that group anymore.
I agree, take the guy in the white GT3, that is a lot of car, and the driver probably only has 4 or 5 track weekends under his belt. NASA does seem to push people through the ranks way to fast. In the SE where I usually run they have made group 2 a solo group. Now you have guys with 2 or 3 track weekends out on track solo wtf? My brother is doing his 5th track weekend at RA in a couple of days, and he is signed up for group 2 for the first time. He asked for an instructor, and was told that group 2 is a solo group, and he will be fine running solo, problem is he has never soloed before.
Having said all that I still think NASA is a great club with mostly top notch drivers, you can't let a couple of bad apples ruin it for everyone.
When groups mix at the end of the weekend, it gets really interesting.
NASA instructors also like to "sign off" i.e. not want to ride anymore because everything looks OKAY-DOOKAY. After a similar experience with the Lotus club, I shaved 3 seconds off my lap time compared to what was previously not something worth instructing about.
I prefer BMW club, but NASA is cheap and more track time focused... but then again if you know how to drive and don't want instruction... open lapping days???
I like NASA, but Charlie is spot on. When I ran in Group 3 at Mid Ohio last spring, it was fine. A month later at Putnam, it was horrible. We had a guy run out of gas on track, we had the first two sessions black flagged because of some very stupid offs. And the trains - OY, the trains!
How many people in IN are SE30? Simon I know... has Carl in the white E30 with my koseis stepped up yet?
Just Simon. There are a couple of guys from C-Bus, Mike Osborne from Caintuckee, and I know ther was another guy (TOm?) who blew an engine. Mine and another one in Cincy in the works.
The KP races around here lately draw 2, maybe 3, so SE30 already has that beat.
Sweet, I love the captions -- FArt with chunks, HA!!
