Nissan claims GT-R's "Launch Control" Voids the warranty!?!

Holy crap, don't misunderstand, I think the GT-R is a fantastic piece of engineering, but this bit of news is just..... Why build in a feature like that....but then not allow anyone to use it?

    jalopnik.com/5061221/gt+r-owner-busts-tranny-using-launch-control-nissan-claims-issue-not-covered-under-warranty

GT-R Owner Busts Tranny Using Launch Control, Nissan Claims Issue Not Covered Under WarrantySomeone claiming to own a Nissan GT-R has proclaimed on the North American GT-R Owners Club forums (NAGTROC) that his GT-R's transmission has broken after multiple uses of the vehicle's launch control function. The owner says that when the vehicle was then brought to the Nissan service center, where he was told the destroyed transmission would not be covered under warranty due to the car being driven too often with the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) shut off.

Another forum member clarifies that "you have to turn off VDC to activate LC, and you have to sign a paper saying your warranty is voided if you turn of VDC, and while VDC is off, you cause damage. It is clearly stated in the manual/warranty, as well as is put into writing and you have to sign, when you pick up the car." Below the jump, the personal account, in the owner's words, from a thread titled "do not launch your gtr or take the vdc off, time to bend over guys its gonna hurt."

I was driving my gtr two weeks ago and I heard a loud noise coming from the rear. I turned immediately had my gtr towed to crown nissan st. petersburg fl. They didn't touch my car only called some techs from tennessee to look at the car and record the noise, 4 days later two guys from japan to download some info from the car then left. Then I get a call from the dealer to tell me the news, and they told me that the car was driven without vdc too much and nissan will not warranty the transmission which they said was destroyed, I asked them how much to fix it they told me 20k, no freaking way I will pay 20k on top of what i just paid for the car. I called the gtr number and also talked to nissan consumer affairs got nowhere, now the car is sitting at the dealer. I know we shouldn't launch the car but why own it if you cant use this function, don't sell a car that goes 0-60 in 3.4 sec if the only way you can achieve this speed is to void the warranty , false advertising. Here is the bad news people were fearing it has happened to me and Nissan has told me there are already three people in my shoes, if you are one of these people email me, we have got to get together on this. Just think if any of you guys have taken the vdc off just a few times you have already voided your warranty, good luck what a joke nissan.

Since poor grammar doesn't lead to high credibility, we're wondering what the owner isn't telling us. At the same time, it seems odd that Nissan would build a supercar with a significant part like the transmission unable to handle hard use. What do you think? Is this guy a moron that hooned his car beyond the reasonable limits, or does he have a valid point to his complaints? [read the entire thread at NAGTROC]

I've heard the same thing elsewhere. I'm not a GT-R fan due to this kind of shenanigans.

We are BMW/Nissan at our dealership... Nissan pretty much sucks a fat cock. We cant even get a GTR here to sell because we didnt buy Nissans $150k alignment rack. Fuck Nissan. Id take an E92 M3 over a GTR any day of the week.

oh and ^ btw, they renamed it officially to the GTR so people who use to call the old cars

            "skyline GTR"

would now call the new car

            "Nissan GTR"

this was a pretty smart branding move by Nissan because although all car enthusiast know that Nissan makes a Skyline, your average joe shmoe probably would not.

I've said it before. Everything you do in this car will void its warranty. Why make the car so "great" but you cant track it to see its potential? Why cant you use its features that are built in? This car frustrates the shit out of me. But drive one and its sex.

On edmunds.com they list the MSRP at $76,840. I'm sure between dealer mark up & the hype factor, $90K+ is what some are shelling out to get one of these things in their garage.

That kind of money will get you a loaded E92 M3 or a Porsche GT3.

I've seen one at a track, they aren't all that awesome. No Godzilla. Sure they can keep a quick pace, but they are heavy and over-loaded with luxuries.

Not a car to go fast in, but a car to look cool in and brag about.

I think the owners claim is totally valid. Even though he signed that warranty contract, i believe that unless they stated exactly how many times one could turn off the VDC before voiding warranty he will have a very good case against Nissan. If this is such a serious issue... the ability to turn off the VDC should only be activated at nissan once the owner signs a contract agreeing to void the warranty right then and there. This "too many times" sounds like an easy way for Nissan to get out of upholding warranties. Not to mention that the fact is... they claim 3.4 in the 0-60 but most likely no where state that doing this (only by turning off VDC) will void warranty after some 0-60 passes. Yeah either they are gonna have to buy back the car, or fix it free of charge... not to mention civil fees. At least thats my opinion.

Uhhhh, you obviously are talking out of your asshole. Not a car to go fast in? They would kill 99.9% of vehicles on the road, and 100% of vehicles youve driven. I dont read many of these car mags, but we tend to have the ones with the GTR lying around the customer waiting rooms. They shit all over a lot of high end cars, and dont cost nearly as much.

With that said, I still wouldnt want one.

Thats the same price as a 911 and im pretty sure a 911 would wipe the floor with this thing w/o voiding its warranty.

I think you would be surprised. Dont think its a piece, because every other Nissan is. To be 100% clear, Id rather have any non boxster porsche than this. But its not some little POS.
