    Aftermarket "racing" seat prices

Seems like there is a large difference in price. I'll be honest, I don't know everything there is to know about seats, but often the websites don't go into too much detail about what each seat offers.

For example, a lot of the Corbeau seats are $200-$300 range, where Sparcos are 2-3x that much. What makes one seat so much more expense than the next? Are they any better?

For what it's worth, I'm only looking at fixed back seats at the moment.

Strength, comfort, durability, fitment, weight, etc...

Comfort is one major thing. I'm using a Corbeau FX-1 Pro. While on the track, it's great. After one hour of highway driving, my butt hurts. After 2 hours, my legs fall asleep. After 3 hours, I pull over and fall out of the car.

FIA certification (may effect your need for a seat back brace in some classes), fitment, cloth and padding durability, etc... are all influences in the price.

Good point. I have metal rods in my back and sometimes seats can be can be troublesome. I'm hoping I will be able to find one that doesn't hurt my back. I'm worried I may have to pad my lower back to get things to fit right. My back has a slight outward curve thanks to the rods so I often have to recline normal seats more than most people to get the angle right.

Your best bet is to find a speed shop or go to a track day and ask to try a few different seats.

Many people I know with Corbeau FX-1 hate them. Very uncomfortable. But at $275usd what good can be expected? Most proper FIA approved seats are around $700 (like Sparco's Evo seats). For $795, one can get a superb Recaro SPG, which is the real deal for a race seat and considered a classic top-of-the-line. Chick not included.

Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

BTW, are you going to do another run of seat mounts?

So what are they saying about them? I am thinking of getting them for my car.

Is there a seat that is similar to that seat in the same or close to the same price range?

I will make another run right after Christmas. If the US hasn't imploded.

They are uncomfortable and not rigid.

No. Don't expect BMW quality at Yugo price.

                      Speaking of Yugo's...

Q: Do you know why they have rear window defrosters?

A: To warm your hands when pushing it in the snow.

Those actually look like they are curved in the back, which is really what I need because of my back. $795 isn't that bad if they are comfortable.

The SPG is not a bling-bling race seat. It is a true Motorsport race seat that has been in use for over 20 years. Also, Sparco's Evo seat is more cushiony if you want more comfort.

You can get good used race seats that have expired (5 years after manufacturing) for about $300...
