Some seats are side mount. Should make things a breeze to just buy side mounts and the VAC adapter. Expensive but easy. MassiveLee sells side mount brackets that bolt to the stock sliders=slick-cheaper and easier than the Vac route.

Some seats take a bottom mount bracket. Those are specific to the car so if you buy used make sure there is something available for your car first.

I've been told that certain side mounts on certain seats (I can't remember the combo but I'm sure I save the PM or post somewhere) will bolt right down.

So do any side mount adapters fit the mounting holes for an E30 or do I absolutely need the VAC adapter if I want to mount a seat WITHOUT sliders?

haha. I'm guessing you were late to the game, and were posting same time as Lee. See the post above yours.....

That's definately the cleanest setup. And in all honesty-probably one of the cheapest when all is said and done.

I would recommend using Lee's side mounts, I have them myself. However, I'd recommend using them in conjunction with angle iron/aluminum to mount them to the floor and bypass the factory sliders.

Yep, I was in agreement about no sliders.

                JGood,
What size aluminum angle is that?

I don't know, that's Lee's pic. I forget what size I used, but it looks the same. It may be better to go with steel, I'm not sure about the strength of angle aluminum. Anyone else know? I guess it depends on the manufacturer...

There is at least one FIA approved two piece side mount.....

Aluminum like the angle is an extrusion. That shit is usually hardcore stong

Gotcha. Yea, those holes do look a little close to the edge of the angle. Couple of roll overs with 200+ lbs in a seat and it would likely fail.

Maybe Lee can make adapters with an integrated base for an E30?

Or how about welding the factory sliders so they are in a fixed position?

Do a google search for FIA approved 2 piece side mount brackets......Those brackets are all extrusion and strong.

Why would you weld the factory sliders? If you are going to use them they may as well slide. It's not like the factory slider moves inadvertently

FIA aluminum seat mounts are 6mm thick. Massive's are 6.35mm thick. The base plates can be 1/4" extruded stock and it will be very strong. If you use th OEm sliders, don't weld them. And BTW they are very strong.

Having a shop build you a custom install usually takes about 4 to 5 hours, per side. Lotsa thinking, cutting, welding and drilling. And it costs a lot. Which is why I came up with Massive's sidemounts. At least it allows anyone to do his own custom install, easily. Fixed or sliding.

I may be contacting you soon about some side mounts and the slider adapters. Do you have a price range for both of those pieces shipped to SoCal? I really like the black side mounts with the red MASSIVE logo. Pure sex

Found some pics. Do not install it on top of carpet like I did. I just did that to get the car back together for an autox, I'd never go on the track with it like that. You'll notice I drilled the holes wrong, so I still had to use spacers between Lee's mounts and the angle aluminum. I've since corrected those flaws. Expect to spend 3-4 hours on the install.
