    Started Autocrossing

I hit the tracks this weekend and found it to be quite fun and plan on doing it more often.

What are some good tips. When i first started i noticed i wasnt hitting the brakes like i should have around corners and so forth so i have improved a little on that.

My goal would be able to push the car hard and still be able to maintain good control of the car around the cones.

A tip i got from someone was to look at the cone ahead of you not the one infront you and that has worked great for me so i dont miss any cones or gates.

In about a 3 weeks ill have a strut brace and the car will be down about 2 inch's so possibly that will help a tad. not sure

But if you have any tip on tracking that would be awsome.

Tracking and autox are two different things...

    You were doing AutoX.

"What are some good tips. When i first started i noticed i wasnt hitting the brakes like i should have around corners and so forth so i have improved a little on that. "

Tip 1; use your brakes before you turn; your car and brakes only are able to do their job at 100% when in a straight line.

The look ahead tip is very good as well. Walk the track before hand and see where you think you will enter the gate and where it will put you out of the gate.

Smooth shifting, wheel control, brake control and throttle control is needed for AutoX. It's really about how weight transfers, so be like Initial D and don't spill the cup of water!

The right seat position is always helpful, make sure your wrists (when your arms are fully extended) hit the wheel right in the middle.

Tire pressure can be helpful. Depending on what tires you have, check with the local autox's to see what they run.

Suspension helps out a lot, but I would recommend sways before you go with a strut bar.

    Hope this helps..

One more thing.. the ETA has gobs of torque and no LSD. (I don't know if you changed that or the SuperETA has a LSD) but wheel spin, getting sideways, etc are lose of seconds. Seconds means minutes in AutoX. So just be careful if you are comming into a corner that spits you out on to a straight, don't slam your foot down on the throttle...

walk the course as many times as you can.. and walk in the posistion you would actually be in if you were in your car. it's probably not worth pushing your car hard your first couple times, you're just going to end up nailing cones and that won't get you anywhere. concentrate on getting good clean runs and just improve from there.

I decided to keep my old E30. So i am going to use that for track now.

What should i do to get it i guess track ready?

Remove intieror minus dash and two seats.?

The car will have to be kept street legal of course. But i think ill start investing some money down on it. Sad part is that the car will have to sit for a couple months while i get everything situated(insurance etc..). In the mean time while it sits i can tear it down and do a little of work on it i guess. 8)

uhh, fix everything that's broken and buy a good helmet. "stripping" your car will do nothing when your driving skills are at level 0.

Read the rule book before you start modifying your car. Stripping the interior automatically puts you in D Street Prep, a class that E30's can have a very hard time being competitive in.

Let's drive fast and have fun.
