street tire suggestions in 15" for auto-x

Im looking for a new pair of shoes for the E30. For this season at least (probably next also) they will have to do double duty as an auto-x and DD tire/wheel. Then, i will move to r-compounds.

wheels will be TR C1s or TD pro race 1.3, in 15x?"

help me find the right tire for my situation. right now, the fastest street tires (in the affordable range) are the direzza Z1, re-01r, and possibly the khumo XS. however, there size choices in 15" are somewhat dissapointing:

    z1: 195/55/15 @23.5"
    re-01r: 195/50/15 @22.7" (too small)
XS: 205/50/15 @23.1" (still a tiny bit small)

in lower grade tires, the sizes seem better...

    dz101: 205/55/15 @23.9"
    RS-2: 225/50/15 @23.9" (best size)
    ??

however, although the RS-2 is a decent tire, it wont hold its end against the first 3 i listed. any suggestions?

    Z1.

Edit: You're in Canada. Get the Re-01r's. Much better in the rain.

      drive in rain ever? KDW2?

      I would avoid the RS2 for autox. just because it's a 225 doesn't mean it's better.

yes rain performance is important, both on the highway and on the track (at least 1 rain event a year from what ive seen).

the RE-01R's sizing is just too small at 22.7" overall diameter, no?

EDIT: i will be running a 4.10 rear end.

195/50 is pretty damn small. I would get the 205/55-15 KDW2s first (awesome in the wet and dry), too bad they don't offer those other tires in better sizes.

looking on tire rack, dont see any high end BF's in 15" size.

you sure? man, I hope they didn't discontinue them, need to replace my set this spring. 205/55-15 is the size you are looking for, BFG KDW2 or sometimes called the KDW NT (new tread).

look for yourself, 15" is nowhere to be seen

this is interesting! i believe khumo made a typo on their overall diameter for the 15" XS, it should be 23.1" according to tire calc. in fact, the other XS sizes match tire calc, it's only the 15" that falls short.

so hopefully the XS proves to be a worthy contender to the street tire crown, it does seem to have promise. and at 205/50/15 and only 19.2lbs, it's quite interesting to me.

gforce sport tops the rs2 in my book

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

Don't forget the Azenis 615. My 205/50r15 cost me about $130 apiece, and they actually do pretty good in the rain. They're a great low-buck track/street tire to just beat on.

yeah, no. I already have R-comps, don't need to wear a set out driving to work. :p
