    Why so many bots?

Is there a reason why the forum is getting so many bots lately?

They are getting past our image verification and required location field in the registration process. It's becoming very frustrating.

I was just thinking, why don't you do what bf.c does and not allow noobs to post any links.
I'm not sure if that would stop the bots from posting, or if it would just keep the links out of the post though...

I could see how that would help but I have tried to sell some things and required pics and a link and I couldn't because I didn't post enough.

I can help and it can hurt and one thing that got me to R3V is that they don't require a posting limit. R3V FTW!

                    what about something like this:

                    http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=132482

It might buy another year or so until they start figuring out how to bypass that so easily. Do you guys do email confirmation registrations? I registered a long time ago so I don't remember, plus I don't know if it's changed since then.

You could enable something like this and include a note while signing up that you could have your linking enabled as a noob if you PM an admin. At least that way the new guys can sell things/post links and the forum staff knows they aren't selling cigarettes and love dolls from the former Soviet bloc.

Image linking wouldn't be a big deal 'cause of the r3v image hosting.

Oh yeah, I doubt most of our spam is bot related. Looks like someone who needs a better job. Not much you can do to stop these dolts.

Just require like 20 or 50 posts before you can link or post pictures. People shouldn't just be signing up here solely to sell something anyways.
