At 9pm a few weeks ago, I did 110mph. It did look like some people were stopped because it was also raining.

Anyone who doesn't say it is immediately identified as an outsider.

Just don't ever say The PCH. My ears bleed when people do that.

its just a socal thing. in norcal (bay area) if you ever hear someone say "the" before any highway it immediately identifies them as being outsiders. its very weird to me as well hearing the highways referred to in that manner.

In the Bay Area do folks say, "take the BART to the stadium" or, "take BART to the stadium"? Serious question.

Is that Shant's monster? And why park so close to door ding central?

edit: Wait, I think Shant has an Mtech1 spoiler.

We say "take BART"... BART is a proper noun, it doesn't need "the" in front of it. To throw a wrench in the machine, we also say "take public transit", "the bus", "light rail" OR "the light rail" depending on the mode of transportation. "The BMW"... ok damn. If I was "going to drive the BMW" it sounds fine, but if I take "The BMW to BMW" or "The BMW to the BMW dealership" it makes sense both ways. UGH. It doesn't always work the same.

"The freeway" is correct because freeway is a noun, (the cat, the dog etc.) "the 405" isn't because you wouldn't use "the" in front of a proper noun. (the Muffin Nuts, the Shit For Brains)

I think using "the 405" is just a shortening of "the 405 freeway", which sounds correct, and "the 405" doesn't sound too awkward. If you said "the 680" I'd give you serious side eye. Maybe because it's different than I'm used to, but also because it sounds awkward.

I think it has a lot to do with the phonetics of the next thing you say. Saying "thuh 80" sounds weird to me, but if I said "thee 80" or "thuh 5" it sounds more natural.

Also, I failed english spectacularly in school, so I mostly pulled this out of my ass, from my experience and not from a textbook.

well the south bay doesn't have BART so im actually unfamiliar with how people would say it. so im not gonna speak on behalf of that particular reference, but i feel like the latter is what people would say.

the south bay has VTA (valley transportation authority) which is the bus/light rail.

i would say "take VTA to the stadium".

but if im referring to the bus/light rail specifically, i would say "take the bus/light rail to the stadium".

                            we're all weirdos....

IMO, if you are saying Interstate 5 or I-5, you don't need "the", because these are truly proper nouns?
