I've never heard of this "famous" clunk. The driveshafts are different but you should have swapped that when you swapped in the manual tranny. I don't think the halfshafts have different part numbers and I can't see why they'd be different.

Sounds like a worn u-joint, though. Have to rebuild the driveshaft since the u-joints aren't serviceable. Get under there and roll the driveshaft back and forth where it meets the input shaft of the diff and see if there's play.

mo had this problem in his old s3.73 diff , we swapped the diff and no more sounds. I even had that chuckle in my eta
