so i have seen that e30 verts have the front strut towers braced into the sides of the bay, i was thinking that this may be a good alternative to getting a full brace that goes across the engine on non-verts? may look cleaner? and is that the purpose of those braces on the verts? seems like a simple mod

i don't think that would do much, you need the two to touch in order for there to be a more solid feel. not to mention, unless you got a really good welder and then you respray the engine bay, it won't look very clean. plus who doesn't like to see a bar across the engine bay? because race car?

Are half shafts not supposed to have any play? Just checked mine and they move in and out just like that but, I don't have the clunk you describe when easing off the clutch.
