is the washer metal or rubber?
use one of those metal stick doo-dads and stick it in the drain bolt hole

That was actually my nickname back in the day when CS:S was released. Some German guys who were in a match with us thought it said Turd instead of Turge. Needless to say my friends found this hilarious and started calling me that. lol

It's a metal one. I was trying to find a strong enough magnet that could grab it although I kind-of pushed it down further trying to use tweezers to get it out.

no problem. i prefer my e36 as a dd, it's just far more comfortable to drive in, more practical and economical.

Take the sensor out and poke around with a telescopic magnet

i'm just saying, go with your gut feeling and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. if that's what you want to do, do it.

this. otherwise, remove pan. if you used the gasket sealer correctly, you shouldn't have any problems because you should have used gasket sealer on the pan and then put the gasket and not the other way around.

well i put sealer on both sides... whoops. new oil pan gasket it is then.

so what i did was... pan - sealer - gasket - sealer - motor

well it's not bad to put on both, but next time it needs getting done will be a huge pita. all you need is a nice thin layer with emphasis on the front and rear corners on the pan and lay down you composite gasket and you are all set.
