exactly what i was going to say. obviously there is a solid reason behind it. they obviously didn't even design it to have the hole there like they usually do with things.

good deal turned into okay deal. chain gave out on the 540 on the drive home from the DMV today.

lol i needed to baby it two more stoplights and i would have been home free. oh well, getting a lower mileage complete motor is only going to run a few hundred more than the whole timing rebuild. tried to give it one last run home at night since valves were already bent and she made it about 100' in a giant cloud of smoke. i guess that's the way to go out!

My god. I cranked it on, looked outside and was like WTF that's me!? Rolled into the next parking lot with one poor cylinder clicking away. Probably bent at least two m20's worth of valves.

I was just starting to look into it last night and it's n64 based. I could go m62b46, which is technically an 'alpina' longblock, but those look to be about as pricey as s62s these days. I think I can pick up a good complete 100-140k motor for around 1200. Ain't cheap, but then I can skip doing all the pricey timing headache.
