    :--: = 5ft pole segment
    O = object

    can't seem to figure it out. say the object at the end weighs something like 6lbs and each segment of pole weighs something like 3lbs each. what would the total weight be in the end at the end of the pole with the affixed object?
    You would need to know something else, ie the force in which it takes to hold up, then you could use d=M/F and solve for mass then go M = W/g and solve for W

      That would be a perfect addition to your growing collection Terry. The only bad thing is that the Koing Remembers would not fit. ;)

        There are triangulation measurements. I'm sure Harry could print them out for you.

                  hm, so distance=mass over force and mass=weight over gravity?

                      The key is actually not going to be the second mount, think of that as a fulcrum to your lever, and the issue is going to be the first mount...

                      Look at it like this...

                      I dont think it is the weight that you need to figure out but rather the force need in the down direction at F1 to balance out the weight or whatever you have on your pole, In your case your camera

                        right, i'm not worries about the mounts. i am simply trying to figure out what the final weight would be at the end so i can see if there will be any flex in the pole and if the poles could actually withstand the weight.

                          Why not use metal poles instead of PVC piping

                            i'm going to be using aluminum. but what to know what wall thickness to get. pvc wouldn't work at all and if i were to get steel it would be far too heavy and bouncy.

                                You need to find the momemt of inertia. Sum the mass of the rod and use its distance at the centroid Then add the moment of the weighted end.
