so I have to replace the motor and tranny mounts on my six. but when I lift the engine from underneath the whole car lifts up. I did unscrew the engine mounts but not the tranny ones. suggestions?
I now have an engine hoist/cherry picker to use as well.Comment

its not going to lift up very high, make sure to disconnect the ground wire.
i would start with the trans mounts then on to the engine. where are you jacking the engine from?

ok I'm getting tranny mounts today. Originally I didn't know they were bad.
ill disconnect the ground wire too. lifting from the oil pan.Comment

Loosen trans mounts but since you're replacing them as well why not take the bolts off entirely, remove bolts from both sides of the mounts, lift from the oil pan but put a block of at least 2x4 to distribute the load if you want to do it via a jack as opposed to the engine hoist. I don't think the hoist is neccessary and might be more headache then it's worth lining things up afterwards. I didn't have to undo the ground wire but you might i'd start lifting the engine up and check around to see what's snagging on what as you're doing it.Comment
