Seattle is land of the Subaru's. It seems like every other car up there is a Subaru lol. Also, saw quite a few e30s up there

Couldnt get today off from work and the roll bar will be all done today. Im pretty excited about it but tomorrow is going to be a busy day. Took the day off to get the car and run some overdue errands. Im really curious what the car will look/ feel like with the bar welded in. I told him not to re-install the rear side windows since I want to paint the welded areas and it will be a lot easier without the glass in.

edit: Just got the text, cars done!

My shop can build you one, custom+perfect fit welded in, that's what we do. Otherwise, Simon would have a lead. He bought a bolt-in and had another shop weld it in.

My fabricator said something similar to mine would cost $2500 from scratch and about $1500 for just a simple 4pt rollbar, Im guessing your costs are similar, of course Im assuming both you and the fabricator wouldve tied the rear bars into the shock towers, not the wheel wells.

Mine was an autopower 6pt cage that was cut out and I trimmed it down to a 4 point with the X-bar. The only thing I dont love about mine, and Im not sure if all autopowers are like this is that the rear bars tie into the wheel well, not the shock tower.

Overall, Im happy with what I paid and as I get more serious about racing, the cage will get more serious too.

What would be ballpark for a 4pt or a half cage like Simon's?

Considering it, but I think some other options might be a bit better/cheaper. Kirk from BW or rollcagecomponents.

Yikes. If that's what I'd be looking at cost-wise for something custom I may just have to settle for one of the bolt in 4 pts for now. Ideally I'd like something bolt in now with the ability to weld it in later and add on.

If 4pt bolt in is the route I go I do plan to do some significant reinforcing of the landing points.

                        VSR is another good one

The thing I dont like about a bolt-in is theres a lot of compromises and they always bolt in to the wheel wells, so it doesnt seem worth it at all

There's a shop in the Glendale/Burbank area called Showstoppers that supplies AutoPower cages. Since AutoPower makes cages for E30s, I'm sure they could get you one. It takes a few weeks to get it, though. My friend got a cage from there for his RX8 and it took like 4-5 weeks for him to get it.

Yea, I don't particularly like that either but I'm trying to minimize as much of it as I can. The VSR one look sliek it fits best of all and has the least compromises. Legs fall on the rockers rather than floor pan, harness bar and diagonal are in plane with main hoop instead of offset. I'll call.

New idea. Have a cgae builder just bend the main hoop for me since I can't do that and i design/weld/fab the rest. Pretty sure I could build it bolt in, have the rear legs tie to the rear strut towers and do it all in such a way that I can weld it in and add to it later. Thoughts?

I have a lead for a fabricator who can build a weld in to your specs who is extremely reasonable in pricing.
