I wouldn't say it sucks. It's a nice improvement over the E30 rack. Z3 rack may be good for a dedicated track car but is too twitchy on the highway.

I have yet to experience an E30 with a different steering rack... I will need to do this someday. I had planned to do the Z4 non-powered rack in the Aluminum Monster, but that never happened. New owner ordered a new rack immediately. I think he went with the E36 M3

Neither have I.. I've been driving e30s for a decade with the stock rack, so this is going to be a huge mod for me.

Same here, I keep hearing how awesome the newer racks are, so I get excited to see how it feels

It's always been my biggest gripe about the e30. I just need to figure out the inner/outer tie rod setup. Hopefully I can get this done by Monday.

I don't know why I replaced my rack with an OEM one when I bought the car.. Good thing I can return it, 8 months later :p

I made that same mistake with my first E30, part of the deal of buying the car was a new rack. I was a newbie to E30s at that time and didnt realize how it was a perfect time to swap in a better rack

I guess cutting the firewall for me was the turnoff.

I cannot wait to drive my car again, especially with the new rack.

Have you been taking your Datsun out to the canyon?

No Im not doing anything crazy with the Datsun for a while. I want to get the whole suspension done and want to do a rebuild of the motor before I start to really push the car.

Angeles crest calls! Can't wait to drive my e30 also! Love the s50, but the car is WAY too low (cut IE3 springs...sigh)... new springs coming tomorrow, so i'll probably put them on saturday night.

I also ordered a new rack (current one leaks after power steering put back in)... ordered an e46 rack w/ 3.0 turn-turn lock. I've read to avoid e36 m3 racks b/c they are progressive and vague when centered.

Lets get a canyon run setup! I want to see your new ride!

I actually just go my hands on an e36, 3.2 rack for 20 bucks. So, I'm going to give it a shot.
