            The 3.25 is going on the turbo car.


            Also worm clamps and mild steel intercooler plumbing = no bueno senor

              what do you recommend I put behind a getrag 250 if I end up putting it in my cabrio?

                I don't know anything about 250s. Whats wrong with the 260?

                quick google search says e36 325i trans (i thought they used ZFs. Must be M3 only). IIRC they came with a 3.15 so a 3.25 for quicker acceleration or a 2.93 for fuel economy. Probably easier to find a 2.93 LSD off of a 325es

                  I don't feel like anything's wrong with it but my dad was suggesting we just use e36 driveline (3.15 diff, I believe) until I have enough money to have it rebuilt. It has over 200K on it but I think it will feel solid again after I refresh all the shift linkage.

                  I'm not a big fan of how it's going to bolt in after the swap, either. He's even less of a fan with all the work he's going to be doing. When he wants to fabricate something he's "bored" but when it's not something he's excited about he's "retired" :D

                  the getrag 250 is basically the same gearing as the zf trans from what I've read so if you know about one you might know about the other.

                      I drove up to Oregon. Started on that megasquirt project, then my head gasket blew.
                      Then I yanked the m20 and tranny intending to do a top-end rebuild and reseal the 260 (it'd been leaking all over the place)

                      but when I popped the head the water jackets are corroded enough that I don't want to reuse it until I weld the jackets and for some stupid reason I left my other head in storage back home in OC. thought I had sent it up with my dad when he visited back in june.

                      no matter which way I go I end up spending a good $500 bucks to do the top end correctly. and with the powder coating I wanted to do that only adds to it.

                      so I went to a local yard to ask for a head I was tempted to just toss on my block and call it done. only problem was I asked around and the only place in town was like I think we have an old bmw in the back and the only one I saw was a '94. I asked for a 325i head and he said they could get me one from colorado for like $625! but then he said if you want to take the '94 have your dad come get it with his trailer and take whatever you want off it...so it didn't make sense to spend money I don't really have building my m20 when I can do a swap for the cost of time in a full shop. at least it's something I can say I built with my dad and grandpa but I'm not liking the fact I'm losing my m20. is there a VIN somewhere on my block? I can't find one. [or do those numbers ID it to my specific vehicle? if so, I'll make sure I keep that specific block in storage]


                      once I get work I'll be building a proper m20, though.

                        When you have a head serviced the get all the crap out when they blast it. Welding the water jackets is overkill unless you plan on going over 18psi. If you do end up grabbing the m50 make sure its off of a wrecked car. If the body is not all smashed up it probably has a cracked head just like 90% of the m50 cars that are in the yards.

                          it was an impound. I'll see tomorrow when I get it home and run some tests on it. If the engine doesn't check out I'll just take it back to the yard so no biggie other than a couple miles worth of gas and time.
