Also I don't think the S38 will be as complete and tested as I want for a trip that long. I don't want to blow up that motor on a simple roadtrip if I can avoid it.

Who all is going with you? I'm not sure if driving 18 hours in my e30 sounds fun.
Another year Im going to pass, the Bimmerfest show itself has grown boring over the years. . .most the fun is bombing down 101 and partying in SB. I'll be attending Ghery-fest in SB for year number two'

Same here, granted I went to the first few as a passenger in my dads M5's since I couldnt drive yet. Been to every one but last years and now this.
We used to wait all year for this, and the show was almost secondary. It was a chance to see all the homies from NorCal, SD, Some out of state friends all together at one spot and party our balls off. *sigh*
was my first time last year. never went to the old location because of the distance, but i hated paying last year to park. they should do it in a smaller city between the two
