How many of you Kalifornyan's with 24v e30's are smog legal?

I have a BAR test coming up ('92 M50), and the only thing I haven't solved is the intake. Which intake are you guys using? The stock E36 won't fit because I still have my ABS and I'm keeping that. I understand that K&N makes a smog legal intake, but it's ~$250. Is there a less expensive option?

Everyone I've seen talk about passing the BAR was just using a typical K&N cone air filter.

Ben have you ever seen a M30 airbox? It's huge. They only fit when you put the MAF inside of it too which really wouldn't do much to help in this case.

I passed BAR with a Castro Motorsport airbox directly off the MAF. All they care about is the MAF.

Ok cool. If I fail it sounds like it's not a problem, just rinse and repeat. Just need to wire up the check engine light in that case. Thanks guys.

If you fail it is indeed rinse and repeat. They hand you paperwork with what failed and what passed. The BAR guys are nice. They WANT you to pass and will work with you.

For the check engine light, if you can't get it to work right, wire it up to the oil pressure switch. It will illuminate when the key is on and for a second or two once you start the car. It'll pass no problem.

I want to order a set, but I don't know if they'll pass.

aside from that, if they won't pass, will the stock s50 manifolds have clearance problems? I've tried to search it but I"m not using the correct search terms I guess, I'm normally really good at lurking and finding what I need.
