5qt Castrol Syntec on sale $29.99 at O'Reilly

The 5 qt is on sale for 29.99 all varieties. They didn't have a 5qt of 0w-30 European Blend but they ordered me 5 1qt for the same price.

    Sale ends today, January 17th.

    1. Why are you wasting money on Synthetic oil for an M20 engine?

    2. Why in the WORLD are you running 0w30 in an M20 engine? It calls for 20w50.

Your not using synthetic in the turbo car?

Well, it appears that smooth is a scientist. I am going to let him enjoy spending way too much on oil changes on a $400 M20 engine and I'll keep doing things my way. I'm fairly tired of people acting like I have no fucking clue.

Most synthetics can be run much longer, Mobil 1 for example guarantees for up to 15k miles. The cost usually washes in the end.

If you believe that 10-15k crap, sure.

I run synthetic because of the way it flows at different (cooler) temperatures, requires less additives (multigrade oils require a lot of additives to "work" = less base stock), has good ZDDP, yadda yadda yadda

also mine isn't a $400 engine but I get your point..

also, I don't get how being LL-01 has ANYTHING to do with an E30. LL-01 came around when BMW decided they wanted to do 15k or 25k mile oil changes (to save money since they're paying for maintenance now). It's for the modern throw away engines, not an M20 that was designed 30 years ago (that was made to last 500k).

if you don't even know what the ZDDP content is - how can you reccomend it for an engine that will trash the cam with levels below say, 1000ppm? even within SM grades, the thinner oils generally have less ZDDP. Just look at Mobil's spec sheets. there's only two viscosities that have adequate ZDDP.
