So if you're christian you can call your marriage a marriage, but not if you're atheist. What about Muslims, Buddhists, Hindu, shinto, wiccans, vikings, Jedi, pagans, etc?
Marriage as a religious entity is not exclusively christian, nor is the word even. Who gives a shit if two gay Christians want to get married or two gay Buddhists or two straight Muslims or two trans pagans. Seriously, who cares? They are two people who love each other and want to spend their lives together until they get sick of each other and divorce. Just like everyone else. Straight infertile people can get married just as well as straight fertile, so procreation isn't even a factor. Who gives a shit?

Yes, but legal marriage is NOT a christian exclusive construct, so your interpretation of marriage, as derived by your scripture, must not be imposed on those not of your faith.
Wanna get married in/by a church? Follow that religion's rules and version of marriage. Want to be legally married? Religion does not matter for that, as it is a separate entity. You can be religiously married and not legally, and the converse as well.
Why can't lgbt folks get married in the legal sense, or in the religious sense if their particular religion allows it? If your church or religion doesn't allow it, that's fine. But why should your religion's interpretation of the concept of marriage dictate policy for those who do not belong to your faith?
I have nothing against religions deciding if they want to marry gays or whatever. I also dont have an issue with religion itself. That is their/your business. I do have an issue when their ideology spills over into the public realm. I firmly believe in the separation between church and state.

Everyone no matter what religion they follow should be granted the simple freedom of "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." If that pursuit of happiness happens to be two gay people who want to get married, so be it. Either everyone can be married by the word of the law, or no one can. Simple as that. Its the only way for everyone to be equal. Its the federal and state laws the say whether or not someone can or can't be married, not some religious book.
More than anything else, marriage is the commitment between two people to each other (unless you are are a religious zealot then you can go do your own thing.) Its not yours or my choice to decide who can and can't make a commitment to another person. You and I don't have any say over whether person Z and R (random letters) can get married. Its non of our business, just like what they do behind closed doors. If to them it is or isn't a big deal religiously, they are the only ones that matter.
Its simple, either marriage for everyone, or no one. Religion cannot and must not have a say in deciding this. There was a reason for the separation of church and state (that has sadly been eroded away, there is WAY too much church involvement now.) Seriously, god needs to be excommunicated from any and all forms of politics and government.
