given that i need an engine '91 or newer, isn't the b34 my only option? i'll admit my knowledge on m30s is not expansive, have never really looked into them much.
Any M30B35 should work. They won't know which year it came from.
oh man, dirty b34 is a completely different story. awesome motor. better software, higher compression. we have the block of one in the shop right now, with a set of damaged pistons. I'm eventually going to find out if it's possible to get pistons welded back together cause the ones in it are neat forged 94mm bore high comp piano tops.. but two have cracks in the valve reliefs and one has a chunk of it missing.
It would be a better idea to just go with aftermarket pistons. $900 for Ross in whatever spec you want.
Are you talking about the euro "L" block? As it's referred to?
It wasn't tuned for no cats. It was just a over square bore vs stroke.
As a result - a much more "peppy" motor. It like to rev. Where a stock m30 likes to make TQ.
Nope, the m90 and the euro b34 are different engines. Spence's pipe dream m535 has an m90, as did my old six. Euro-market 82+ e24 and e28 had the dirty b34.
Edit, to clarify, L block == m90. It is 93.4x84, vs the b34/b35's 92x86. We just built one up for the lemon!
