Unknown engine condition, what if it doesn't pass smog? Also that I believe is an m44 and idk if there are any differences as far as compatibility.
Is it really that hard? Try looking for excuses to make it happen and not the other way around.
However, buying the oil pump from a place like AutoZone (hope you bought it from a reseller that a lenient return policy) that will take it back with receipt if it does not solve your issue would be a good first step. Just drench the oil pump in brake cleaner , blow off with compressor real good. Set it out in the sun and then repackage / return. 90 percent of the time they dont even open the box and visually inspect very well during a return scenario.
Do Work!

Talk to the seller and agree that you can drive the car down to the local smog station. Tell the attendant that you are concerned with smog pass and ask if he can do a quick run on the smog machine for you. Haggle half the costs covered by each party (buyer and seller) then if passes. Buy and part. Done!

ok, read the whole thing.
questions, kronus:
- no way to keep the m42 rad? i like my m42 rad and its integrated expansion tank :(
- last time i read a FAQ on the m30 swap as well, i don't remember reading anything about having to cut and weld the shift arms. is there an e30 tranny you can use with that removable bellhousing?
- am i seriously retarded for wanting to keep my 4.10? i <3 short gearing, even with stump-pulling engines.past:

Well it's from blunttech, so I'm not quite sure what his return policy is. And additionally idk if the m44 will work in place of an m42.
Here is a ridiculous Autozone idea. Offer lifetime warranty on brake pads to the original purchaser which is not transferrable to a new owner of the vehicle that the pads will be installed upon. No shit! That is there policy. When I brought it to the attention of the person selling me the pads he said " I know, crazy huh". I said brake pads are a wear item and meant to wear out." He said bring em back once they do and they must be 2/3rd 's used/worn or more. I asked when they would have this policy in place for brake rotors. :)
