Couldn't you just as well get an LS motor of some type and get that BAR'd? Correct me if I'm wrong on the rules, but I was told you could put in a newer motor, that is more smog friendly, and use it instead of the standard one.

The simple version of engine swaps is that you can swap any newer engine in a car but you have to have all the smog equipment from the newer engine also.

That wagon is a diesel so smog isn't required. But, it's imported and California is special...
