I ran a Castro's airbox with my swap and it posed no concern with the Ref. All he cared to see was the MAF and that there were no codes and the car passed all sniffer tests.
Im doing a m30b35 swap, you think i can sneak under the radar and just smog it.

i would say it may take you a couple tries but yes your motor being super clean and fresh looking raises suspicion besides that i would go at the end of the day and u have a reasonable chance

Maybe if the smog tech is ignorant, but be on the safe side and get it BAR'd. It'll also make selling the car much easier down the line should you choose to do so.

My friend and I went through the BAR process a couple months ago. It took him a total of 4 times to pass...as there was a wiring short in the harness causing the car to throw an o2 sensor code. BAR is kind of a pain in the ass as you can't always get an appointment when convenient.

In the case of his car he put an m50 into his 93 e30 325 convertible. Of course the BAR technician was a bit confused as the m50 shows up for a 93' 325i as well so he thought it was a repair rather than a swap.

Anywho, be sure to have a stock set up and have the ECU ready to be inspected (dangling in the glovebox). They will run the VIN on the ECU and that's the year that the car gets "BAR'd" as. For his car, we kept everything stock, aside from a cone filter, and new aftermarket CA cats welded into an e34 midsection mated to an e30 m20 exhaust. Don't forget to hook up the evap/charcoal canister! They couldn't inspect the exhaust itself because the car was too low and they don't put it on a lift, so have paperwork from the exhaust shop showing you have the correct cats.

One of the issues we ran into, is the car failing the 15 mph HC emissions test with NEW cats. They turn the car off and let it sit for 20 or 30 min to be inspected BEFORE smogging it, so the cats get cold. Between Skyline and Evergreen, some technicians would let you keep the car running to stay hot, while others would shut it off, so its luck of the draw depending who you deal with. Be sure the drive the piss out of it and bring it in hot like you would a regular station.

The car finally did pass, and it's now a 1993 e30 325i BAR'd as a 93 325i m50 (even though the motor is a 95 525 motor, but the tech didn't ask for a VIN on the motor).

I know this was a novel in itself to read, but hopefully it helps you out should you choose to go through the process. I think an m30 though should be a bit more straight forward.

How much were the locks? I got VIN cut keys recently and they dont match the locks and stuff so I want to do the same.

Around $100, but im not sure. i think i forgot to get an ignition lock with them and ill need that too. before i bought the car, there were several attempts by thieves on it with damaged all the locks on the car.

                        Eric,

You know I want to know where you got your VIN matched locks from.

Bo Lam destroyed my locks, and re-keyed them to a non-VIN key.

I have since replaced my ignition cylinder with one from the factory in original VIN.

So now, my ignition uses the original VIN key but my doors & trunk locks (which barely work), use a different key....

AND I NOW want to get the doors/trunk back to the original VIN key.

....So I am looking for 2 factory VIN door lock cylinders, and a factory VIN trunk lock cylinder.

                        That is all.

Drove to In n out last night with a few buddies and on my way there I noticed the lights starting to dim and the radio would shut off if I hit the brakes. I was scared to idle through the drive through so I parked it and it didn't have enough juice to crank over. Some nice guy helped me jump start it and we drove home. Made it all the way there and only 20 feet before my parking spot it died completely. I am hoping the battery just took a shit and I don't have to swap alternators.

Insurance is finalized from the accident, so time to start shopping for a new car. Looking for a shell with clean paint. If anyone knows of one let me know.

this all happened in the original 4 door? im guessing either alternator or possibly a faulty grounding issue.

it is probably the damn alternator. What grounds do I check? I checked the battery ground in the trunk, the hood ground, and I think that was it. I couldn't get down under the car (and it was dak) to check the motor to body ground last night, but I will do that later today.
