Which one is better or are they really exactly the same?

Uh, they're lighter than an M20 E30 and make more power than an M3...

6 pounds lighter and 6 more HP so yes, but for literally no money at all, take the AC out of your M20 E30 and shed 12 pounds and gain 8HP and BOOM, faster than a BRZ.

So, 8hp makes up for a more-than-30hp deficit, in a heavier car?

Math wasn't your best subject in school, was it :P

                Ugh here we go.
                The M20 E30 (325is) weighs 2864 with no driver.
The BRZ weighs 2856 with no driver.
                The S14 M3 made 189HP.
                The BRZ makes 194HP.
If you shed 12 pounds and gain 8HP, that's all that taken care of, anything else?

Wrong. Spec sheet on my no-option model had curb weight at 2765.

Sorry, with new cars I just assumed people got options. 100 pounds makes a difference for sure. Now I'd have to get a lightweight battery and remove my rear seats. Dammit.

Like I said, I wanted a no-option model for that reason.

It still has what I wanted... Bluetooth connectivity in the stereo so I can Pandora/Spotify, AC because it's fucking hot lately, and that was about the extent of my wish list.

I'm kinda surprised at all the hate... They really are comparable to an E30M3, only with a warranty, at a sub-25K price point. The only downside is they come with really shitty tires out of the box.

still a 30+ year old car can do the exact same numbers, handle just as well and has a better interior. for 10k less.

personally i cant stand the BRZ/FRS
they could have put a 2JZ-FSE and made the car great.

And an e30 weights 2813 lbs! still less than the base BRZ.

Couldn't agree more. I can't fathom buying a cheap plastic modern E30 knock off for 25k when I could have 5 driver E30's for the same price.

like my friend that i was teasing about owning a miata. i let him tear it up in my car and he understood why i teased him after 10 minutes behind the wheel.

My dad stands by miatas (he's only had one) but I keep telling him to drive any of my e30's and he'll understand. Quicker and more responsive than a miata with all the practicality of an actual car
