I had a 95 Legacy wagon with the ej22 and 5mt. Fantastic car, super reliable, very fun in snow especially with sway bars. Coilovers were fun and drastically improved handling but the lack of chassis rigidity made them annoying to live with, so don't bother.

The ej25 up to 2004 blow head gaskets. A lot. They are noticeably more powerful than the ej22 single port engines, but the ej22 dual port engines are not very far off of from a ej25. Neither engine has much mod potential without sinking in astronomical amounts. The 2.2 has always felt smoother to me than the 2.5s I've driven. Great cars but my tired m20 e30 made them feel suler slow...so....they're really really slow.
