good news that the car's been recovered. only time i had one stolen, SJPD found it and i think the thief wanted to keep it, as he hadn't taken anything, and had replaced the battery.
Absolutely. This particular car has been in the family since new in 87, recently endured 3 kids learning to drive in it and use through high school. It's been backed into - while parked - by soccer moms, twice recently, and we've been paid like $4.2K in claims for the two incidents, without any issue of being totaled, or really requiring much repair. It's paid for itself over & over, and still runs & drives great. Good car karma.

Honestly, I was more pissed about possible loss of the removable hardtop than the rest of the car.

John, my god that is stupid.

e30s are pretty hard to steal. that's why i asked that question. my dad does the same crap with his e30 and i yell at him all the time. leaves the phone and ipod on the seat, keys in the ignition. he has a 92 mtech2 too :hitler:

Either way, your kid doesn't deserve the car or such a nice father that is gracious enough to give it back after such a idiotic mistake.

Oh he was feeling extremely stupid. Heavy guilty-trip shoveled his way. He called his mom to meet with police, and was full of fear for hours before coming home. Happened day before graduation, so the feelings vs. timing was complicated. And, he's got an identical twin brother, who is truly responsible. Their lives are interwoven and there is a potential divisive element to be considered.

Dang I can't imagine leaving my key anywhere near my car when Im away from it. It takes me like 5min to tidy everything up before I go into anywhere...

siggy, sorry to hear about the car, glad you got it back though.

Yea, those are the factory RSMs and shocks from my m3 sedan (white car), I put them on the coupe (red car) to help chase down suspension noises, and didn't install washers on them. As a result, the shock punched the bushings out. Granted, the bushings and shocks have 150k miles on them, and are deaaaaaad and dry, but still. Operator error more than design failure.

I have not seen the rogue ones, but I've used the JTD and GC ones on my cars with no issue. I replaced the white car's parts with new OEM and they've been great.

The subframe issues are totally unrelated to shock mounts. The shock mount reinforcement plates, I think from a Z3, just bolt on and are a good idea. The subframe issue is a lot more involved to repair, and unless you're going to solid aluminum mounts, you won't aggravate the failure point.

I might be selling my E30 to move on to the next project. Mine is a ton of fun that Ive put nearly 40k miles on and have done a ton with. I dont need to sell it other than not having the space to start a new project. Plus the car Ive found is more of a 90% complete build that I can finish, enjoy and then who knows.

The next realistic step FOR ME & for my car is to start prepping for more track oriented stuff, but I really dont want to do that with this car. Its such a great overall package as it is now, so I would rather sell it to someone to enjoy it as is, do some things to make it theirs and I can start with something more track oriented than to gut this thing out to get it into the 2200#.

decay is selling his motor though and I would encourage anyone looking to build a lightweight type build than all out "s52 or nothing else" kinda car. People dont believe me, but Ive proven it over and over that my M52 setup (again, the whole package) can outperform a S52.

Simon, if you are genuinely interested in selling your car, I'd definitely be interested. If you have a number in mind, PM me and if you're still just kicking around that idea, I totally understand. The next E30 that I get, I probably won't build for a full AutoX/Track set up either but if I could buy a built AM52 already installed and save me the headache of swapping it, that'd be huge. Let me know if you wanna offload it, I'm here and interested
