BTW, what type of fabric is the soft top? You should remove the fabric recycle the frame then dye the fabric possibly?
If thats possible get some thin particle board or plywood and some foam like the one below and make your own trunk trim around the tool box. Thatd be dope as fck.

Hmm I never thought of saving the fabric. It looks hard to cut off and use on another vert top, but I could cut it and use it to make cool things :D
