Spence, dont get down. We have someone up here who is 10000000000x worse than you (5toes). I have to give you credit. The stuff you've done is nothing to downplay, plus when its all done you've learned a lot. Its a learning experience. Cars in general are fairly simple. If the car isnt cranking, the first thing to check is the voltage on the battery. if its less than 12.7v it probably isnt enough to start a car. If its 12.2v the car wont start, but all the accesories and lights will turn on. The jumper cables can only do some much.
With that said, with stuff like this start with the basics. Its usually something small and stupid.
Good luck to ya!

He thinks something is wrong with his car, and ask us how to fix it. We tell him the things to check. He doesnt listen and removes said part (usually breaking stuff in the process) then he asks us how to fix it. We tell him, he doesnt listen and does something different. More stuff goes wrong. We bust his balls for not listening. Then he gets frustrated and says we arent helpful and all we do is give him shit. After some time goes by the problem is usually fixed by our original suggestions.
I feel bad for the guy who bought his E30....
