sponginess is not related to pads/rotors at all. Both are hard surfaces. Sponginess is compressible substances in the hydraulic system, usually air in the form of foamy brake fluid, but sometimes air bubbles due to leaks or improper bleeding. Bleeding the calipers makes this go away. In rare cases where it doesn't, more extensive bleeding with a proper pressure bleeder, or even bench-bleeding the brake master cylinder will take care of it.

A good pressure bleed with quality brake fluid should do the trick.

Impact on strut is a good way to ruin the piston seals...why not use hand tools? Lowes has a new extreme socket line that is DOPE. Basically it passes straight over bolts, but also allows you to stick the Allen key into the strut and then turn with the wrench. $80 for the tools from lowes.

LBV konis have a nut and the shaft has a lock you put a wrench on to hold it still. you old one with a box and one with a socket. never put nut on a sock with an impact driver.

I'm only talking about taking them apart. I wouldn't impact it back on. Is there any way to hold a bilstein strut in place to use a ratchet on the top nut? I know you can do that on a stock insert because of the spring's pressure on it, and then it flies apart once it's open.
