I got the idea from you. So the temp switch is on the passenger side of rad, right? Will my e30 plug fit into the e36 switch? Also how did you mount it, and what's the benefit of the Volvo fan? Pushes more air I'd assume, but just wondering. Is the wiring as simple as connecting two wires together?

Recommending the Volvo fan because it's the biggest one I know of that fits. If I'm idling in a parking lot waiting for the GF, or sitting in traffic, it'll come on after about 10 minutes and cool things down to the point where it turns back off in 1-2.past:

Yes.
Yes. M42 electrics have much more in common with E36 than E30-M20.
$10 fan mounting kit from Kragen, etc. Four plastic devices kinda like zip ties that you feed through the radiator and tighten them down till the fan is secure. And yeah, just splice the wires.

-Remove AC condensor and fan
-Acquire fan from a 90's volvo 850 (I think)
-Mount it on my radiator
-Put a switch/sensor from an e36 m42/44 radiator in mine
-Cut off the plug for my aux fan
-Crimp the 3 wires together (what colors match up??)
Is that it? People have mentioned the relays or something that's in the Volvo wiring, is that necessary? And if I understand correctly, I won't need to have my AC button on the whole time, but if I press it it'll immediately kick the fan on high. Also fucking hell an electric fan is $33 from PNP. God I fucking hate that place. In a thread I was reading some guy went to a junkyard and grabbed 5 different fans and his total was 25 bucks.Last edited by Vivek; 01-12-2014, 08:47 PM.The first car I ever rode in was an e30

my fan didn't come with a relay, and i don't remember there being 3 wires. just splice the aux fan wiring to the new fan, and remember to have some higher-rated fuses ready. pretty simple.past:
