Hey M20 guys I have a quick question. My dad's car is acting up. The check engine light is on and the idle bounces between 1500-2500. The weird thing is it's done this a handful of times in the past and he/I just shut it off and turned it back on and it was fine. It started last night and I restarted it many times. It's still doing it now. So I'm thinking a vac leak? It's just weird that restarting it helped in the past. Poking around the bay I don't see anything obviously wrong, and I don't have a smoke tester (other than blowing a lungful of vapor into the intake ). It also smells very rich.

Sounds like a vac leak to me. Or icv. Do a smoke test/see if you icv is bunged up
