Speaking of the devil, I just got a line on a Sterling 318iS. I've always been a 318iS guy over the 325iS. Never cared for the m20. I don't mind another e30 project, but it will have to be a 318iS, m3, or mt2 vert.

I spoke to Marine for a bit and I might pass on his car. I still have to grab the taiga green tii and the 89 3.2 Carrera.

I think I've asked before, but if you had to have a e30 cabrio top installed in the SF Bay Area, what shop would you use? The top two contenders are Alex's in Walnut Creek and Superior in Concord. Both are more than I want to spend so I'm still considering DIY.

I'd strongly consider that you give it a try yourself. I put a new top on my friend's convertible and it took me a day, and I'm not an upholstery guy. You'll want to buy a new front seal ($200), and new tension straps ($200). I'd suggest buying a quality canvas top over an ebay one as the ebay tops have a plastic sheen that looks a little tacky, but functionally they're ok. After a couple of years the top and the plastic rear window are still holding up just fine.

Here's the DVD I used and it was very clear and easy to follow:

All said and done you can do this project for under a $1,000, which is probably what an upholstery shop is going to charge in just labor alone, unless you get a good deal. Just my

Had a headliner done on a old Lincoln Continental from Alex's in Walnut Creek and he does great work, not cheap, but good work.
