I failed a smog test over the weekend with high NOX.
I just had it tuned up with new plugs, filters and oil in December.
2 years ago I got an after market cat. I was hoping it would last for 2 tests.
Does anyone have an OEM cat that might still be good?Comment

Looking at selling the four door to get an suv/4x4. I don't see a reason for my brother and I to both have e30's, especially if he doesn't appreciate it.
So I am looking to spend anywhere from $2-2500. I have narrowed my search down to Jeep cherokee xj's, toyota 4 runners, and suzuki samurai's. Any other vehicles you guys know about I should check out?Comment

Before buying a new cat, check for vacuum leaks and make sure the injectors are in good shape, new plug wires, distributor cap/rotor, etc. The car may be running lean, causing higher combustion temperatures (aka too high of NOX). A new o2 sensor would probably not hurt either (usually a good start with many emissions problems).
If you had high HC (unburn fuel, running rich, etc.) then I'd say look at welding in a new cat if everything else was in check.
CA smog just keeps getting tougher and tougher....Comment

Bay View/HP is a sorta rough neighborhood. I'd venture out to the Mission and SoMA (South of Market) area for TONS of good food and drinks.
The Mish, SoMa, Divisadero, North Beach, Chinatown, Inner Sunset, I'd go to with an empty stomach.
