I think i blew my m20 engine! so i think its time for a a engine swap!

Hey guys i was driving my car up to sd when i herd this pop! then i felt it just give out like if it was just reving! pulled off and the car just shut off, then i tryed starting it, it sounds like its trying to turn over but it just makes a chunging noise. im pretty sure the engine is blown out and iv been waiting for this moment so i would have an excuse to sawp!
i live in the elsinore area and wanted to know if anyone around has swaped some motors in the e30? and what swap would be the easiest to pull of and cheapest. im low on time and money.

If you're low on time and money NO swap is right for you.

Check out your engine and see what's wrong with it first.

Look for a hole in the side of the block.

Pull off the timing cover and check the belt.

Sounds like what happened to me when my autotranny went out and over reved my car causing the headgasket to blow.

Your best bet dude is to get a replacement m20 or fix your old one. And if your not sure what's broken, take it to a shop to get inspected or have someone who knows e30's well to come over and check it out. Trust me, I was contemplating doing a swap after my motor died. To buy the motor and tranny for an m50 swap would have been around $1000. That's not including the replacement parts you will need to buy so you don't blow your new motor. If your going to do a swap, I would at least have a couple thousand extra in-case shit hits the fan. I ended up putting in a used m20 that I got from a friend. It still took me over a month to do since I was gathering parts and tools from friends throughout the whole project. But luckily for me Bill Caswell is a super chill dude and helped with the process.

Video from my swap / removal of the motor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzFig_nzVlQ

Case and point... if your going to do a swap, do it right and don't half-ass it or cheap out. If you half-ass it, you'll be most likely out more money. Fix your current motor if you can, or swap in a replacement m20. If you really want to do an m50 / s50 swap, save up money and ride your bike or a family members car to get to and from work, school, etc... until your car is fixed.

These two sentences should never be used together. Find out what specifically happened and what's wrong with your powertrain before you condemn it.
