Born and raised here, spent 5 years in Nashville, moved back. Only because my family is here. I am married, don't have kids and the only thing keeping me here is the opportunity to take over a business I currently work at and my immediate family is here. Oh, and a lot of friends from church too.
However, this state hates people who are trying to succeed (unless by theft, then it is sanctioned) and there is a political nightmare happening in Sacramento. Liberty and freedom do not exist here; political figures and unions get richer while kids suffer in school and non-union workers get the shaft. Too many people are on the take and not enough are working to support the folks who move here from other countries or other states.
The worst part is that the majority of people I run into in SoCal are so self-absorbed, they couldn't be bothered to pay attention to what is happening in Sacramento or even outside their door. It is a sad state of existence. Truly.

That said, there are pockets of people who are genuine and give a damn about things. Surround yourself with them if you can. If things change for me regarding my family or work situation, I will leave this state in a heartbeat. Northern Arizona or back down south. It is hard to live somewhere that a delta smelt is valued more than a human's access to fresh water. It really shows the sad state of things.Si vis pacem, para bellum.

Check out the San Fran Bay Area.
If you love cycling, fresh air, natural beauty, down to earth ppl, etc...
There are lots of nice and affordable places outside the city.
I think you'd like Berkeley, or love the Berkeley-rockridge area of Oakland.

This is a very good read! lol.
"35 Things Only Real Angelenos Know About L.A."
There are observations any outsider can make about Los Angeles, such as: every waiter or waitress you meet is secretly an actor or actress waiting for their big break.
6. Oh! And we also measure distances by time not by miles like most other Americans. You see, none of us knows how many miles it is to anywhere. But we can tell you the time it’ll take you get there within three minutes.
7. There is never a good reason to go the Valley. …Unless you live in the Valley, or you need to go to Fry’s or the Burbank airport.
8. We popularized eating gourmet food off of a truck. If you come to L.A. we will prove it to you by talking about food trucks incessantly. Some of us follow our favorites on Twitter. Like, a first date might take you to a food truck festival. True story.sigpic

Yes, it's beautiful. But a politically retarded place.

Man why does that traffic have to be such shit there?! I've got a pretty solid lead on a job but I'm realllllly looking to live in Long Beach as is my GF, however this job is in Burbank. I'm pretty sure that commute would be the death of me.91 318is M50 swapped

I wouldn't do it.
that commute in a car would kill you, public transport would eat your day.
Look at housing in the south edges of glendale, eagle rock, and surrounding areas, decent living, close to work, weather stays decent bc griffith park is so close, and you can always trek to the beach on the weekends.sigpic

i honestly dont know how people are willing to sit in traffic, anytime i've had to work more than 10 miles from home i ride a motorcycle. now im settled in the job ive been hunting for years, work 6 miles from home, out of my house at 7am, home by 430, its gravy, i can take my dog to the park, work on the cars or bikes, catch a movie, or anything i can imagine.
those are things you can't do having a job you have an hour half, two hour commute for.
also the 5fwy has been under construction for years, years. Parts of it are "due summer 2018" www.i-5info.com. Wether or not you use the 5 its one of the main arteries, and traffic that would otherwise be there, flows over to the streets, or other hwys.sigpic

I have lived in SOCAL since 1977 primarily in fareast San Gabriel valley/Inland Empire area. Your out of the L.A. O.C. traffic and everybody living right on top of everybody else. I live in Lake Elsinore which is in north west riverside county and i have to say i love where i'm at. Its alittle counrtyish out here and not far from the beach and the mountains and the desert and the valley life style is 30 minutes away if you like that kinda living. Bought a house built in 2003 5 years ago for $230.000 and its 4 bedrooms 2 car garage and 2300 square feet and property is 8000 square foot lot. I have lived in Maine,West Virgina, Nevada, and Georgia before Cali and i love it here.Last edited by QUKBMER; 05-09-2014, 03:39 PM.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.
