Didn't have a job, couldn't find a job, and anything I did come across was temporary or didn't pay enough to live on.

This is why I mentioned that the pay sucks, unless his career already makes money.
I meant that as in "if you're looking for any job/anything available" it will fucking suck. You're a prime example because, there's lots of us out here, looking for the same thing, therefore, making the pool of applicants bigger and less likely to get a job.

Yes, SoCal is pretty bad ass and, as a life experience....... It'll be one to tell your grandkids about. ;)
Not at all. I came looking for the truth, good or bad, haha. Also this is why I'm looking into it first rather than diving head first. Something keeps you people there. I'm also not dead set on living right near the beach, have been looking inland and away from the major part of the city.

In my opinion the majority of what keeps people tied to California are family and friends. Yeah, it's nice there, but the cost of living pretty much fucks that up. California was a great place to grow up, but I don't see myself ever moving back. After living in Arizona for 2 years and realizing that I had freedoms (Arizona actually respects the constitution) and that I could actually make a living on near minimum wage (it was hard, but I did it and paid rent), I have no reason to ever subject myself to that. Even if I were rich, I'd still stay here because a million dollar house in California is a $500,000 house here. More money for toys!

I love California, and I love my friends and family, but never again. Hope you're not a gun owner lol

Anyone care to share what they're paying for rent and where? I'm honestly looking for smaller places, I wouldn't be bringing much out (my bed, futon/couch, TV and a few shelves+ two bikes), actually looking forward to purging a lot of the useless crap I've acquired living in a large space.

I still rent because, I refuse to move to the gehtto to buy a house I can afford. Just so o can be a prisoner in my own home.

              $2100 rent + parking spaces + storage + utilities

Unless you got money in the bank stay away from manhattan beach
If you want to stay by the coast check out the whole South Bay Area(Torrance,Carson, lomita, redondo beach, gardena) you might find something in your price range with a garage especially if splitting rent

Move to lake elsinore. Rent is cheap and meth is plentiful. At least the beach is a 30 minute drive through Ortega highway. E30s love ortega.

You could rent a solid house for 1400.

No matter where you live in Socal, you'll want to live close to work. Gas is around $4.29 a gallon, insurance premiums may be higher and traffic is no joke.

Ehh, it's $3.99 here right now and I'd keep my car registered at my moms house most likely. Traffic concerns me though having been stuck in rush hour on the 405, I can't say I was a fan. Granted I have no idea 1) where I will work 2) where I would live but I would certainly try to keep them in close proximity. This is just me gauging interest if I'll even do it. I've been researching some jobs I'm interested in and would ideally like to have that sorted out before I iron out where I'm going to live.

Heh, I can't help but admit that every bit of this is true.....

You should consider San Diego....it's cheaper, same climate, lots to do, traffic doesn't suck as bad, and L.A. is fairly close.

I just moved down here from Seattle a little over 6 months ago. I wanted to live in the Newport Beach/ Costa Mesa area because my work is in Fullerton/ Brea area. I ended up moving straight to Fullerton because my one requirement was a garage. I got a 1-car garage, and a 1 bedroom for $900/month. I also have a ~15 minute commute to work and only deal with traffic when I head to LA and I can usually plan around it. All in all, its not so bad, depending on how you did your swap you can make it legit (which is what I will do once my car is down here). If you're smart about it, most of the shitty things are things you will rarely have to deal with. Also, move here for the weather/ scenery, not for the people.
