    Living Suggestions In DC Metro.

I am looking to live in the DC metro (not the transport system :p) from the end of May to the end of July (2011). Any suggestions on areas to avoid, areas to look in, and/or specific apartments/living quarters to look into would be much appreciated. My budget is about $800/month, two bedrooms preferred, but it is not a necessity. The ultimate size of the place doesn't matter.

So far I have been suggested College Park or Silver Springs, but I have no way of knowing what apartment complexes are 'decent' to live in. Any info would help.

It will be my cousin and I going. She will be doing an internship with the AG department and i'll be going for shits and giggles. I know the cost of living up there is ridiculous, but I enjoy the city and its surrounding communities.

I think i'm going to rig the center caps to explode if they are removed improperly. You know, the "If I can't have them nobody will" attitude. :D

living here is really not that expensive. college park has lots of cheap places for college students. silver spring is pretty nice too. either are fine.

however, college park has waaaaay more pretty girls due to the univ. of md. :D

Is the $800 a month your personal budget or combined for the two? Individual you'll find a bunch, together you won't find anything good.

It's combined. I've been scouring the area so far and I realize $800 is on the cheap side; It is just a starting point. I expect to pay about $500 a piece, or somewhere around 1k/month total. College Park is the current front runner. I figure I might be able to catch property owners trying to fill empty spaces during summer turn around.

Anyone live in College Park or know the area well enough to suggest specific complexes? I realize it is a long time off, but it never hurt to prepare in advance.

I don't see why it is so unreasonable. Thanks for your help though. . .

You could find something for $1k in Hyattsville or Greenbelt I think. That really is not unreasonable. You may even be able to find a house in College Park with some open rooms for rent near the metro.

They are just about finished building a new huge comples right near Route 1 and 495.

you might get lucky. $500 a piece is kind of low though.

Arlington, VA side is reasonable and 5-10 mins to Georgetown. Oh no, you can't afford Georgetown on that budget...GL

Northwest D.C. or the surrounding MD area, Colombia Heights and surrounding communities like Tenleytown are nice too. You might get lucky, I checked out a small house that was $900 a month for a 2 bedroom and was decent, but I passed. Good luck!
