What would R3v do in my situation?

BAM! I did this. I had the death knock and drove the shit out of it for 240 miles until it blew up 3 miles from my house. Cylinder 6 smashed right through my block, I had AAA tow it back. Got a M20 for free from a local guy and threw it in.Leave a comment:

OP is now in my sedan, the coupe is sitting waiting for me to have time to rebuild it. The sedan will get him through the 6 months he needs in order to purchase his new car, at which time I honestly hope to purchase it back from him.
Going to pull the drivetrain, repair the 2 rust spots, and re-spray the bay and car. Keeping it Bronzit.
I'll post pictures tonight, along with a new build progress thread.Leave a comment:

you have to remember that the mechanic isnt a used car salesman or a junkyard. if he pays one of his people (including his time) to fix it, he has to recoup that money. also, parting out the car would be too time consuming to make sense.
$100 is a fair offer coming from someone who doesnt really want the car to begin with. Besides, if OP is taking it to a mechanic, then the continued cost of maitnence probably isnt worth it. the only way i can affors my e30s is to do all the work myself.
OP, i would say that you should trade or swap it. it will be less expensive in the long run than buying a new car and you wont regret it in 2 months.Leave a comment:

For some people an e30 maynot be worth putting money into. Thus a $100 offer and $200 profit for they guy to haul it to the crusher. Or resell it for $500 not running.Leave a comment:

Not everyone does their own work people. Labor isn't free. We won't swap an engine for less than $1000 labor anymore. We tried it once for $800 and got shafted in the end. Wasn't on an E30, but its irrelevant.Leave a comment:

His mechanic told him the car isn't worth putting money into. It's not the offer, it's the deception.I don't know why you guys are bagging on the mechanic. Yes the days of $100 are pretty much gone now, cause most know you can get around $300 for one in scrap. But if one is to make a living or some profit on something, they have to offer a low price. Thats just how things work.Leave a comment:

If it is the car in your sig, and it still looks like the car in your sig...
I cant fathom it but i will be the first itt to tell you that you are a moron and do not deserve the car...
Sell it to a forum member and move long. It is only a m20 swap for god sakes.
If it is not the same car and a rusty crap-tastic pos then I digress, and will not call you a moron.Leave a comment:

Only on R3v does it make logical sense to swap a non-running car for a good runner. I fucking love this place. I've been spending too much time on E46 forums with those pretty pretty boys. I miss my E30....Leave a comment:

Win win for both of us. I need a clean shell, and he needs a running car.
Hopefully everything works out, and considering both vehicles have sentimental value we can trust they will be well cared for.
If everything goes through as planned, I will have a thread up soon of the rebirth of this car. I have some big plans that were going to go into the Sedan, but I would much rather put the time into a car with an already straight body.Leave a comment:

You'd be insane to deal with that mechanic any more. Move on to someone who wouldnt treat you like that. He's shown his true colors.
And you made the right move coming here. You can sell that thing for $500-700 all day here on R3v. Or, find someone to help you put a new engine in. If you're as attached to it as you say you are, bribe some e30 nut to put it in. $500 should get you engine + cheap e30 forum labor.Leave a comment:

Since you're local close to me (I'm in Burke):
First, what mechanic did you take it to?
second, as many here have pointed out - there are 6cyl running engines around this area constantly for $300 or so. Not a difficult swap in a weekend. i'll even let you borrow my hoist :)
third, you can drive the car with a knock. I once drove my WRX 80 miles home with heavy rod knock. And that's a subie. the M20 can probably go 10x as long, lol.
fourth, even for scrap at Crazy Ray's you'd get $300 or so, even if you took EVERY part worth anything off of it. just your LSD diff alone is probably worth a couple hundred.
fifth, if you post it here for $500, it will be gone within an hour, lol.Leave a comment:
